Emporia State University graduate Aaron Moreland’s band, Moreland & Arbuckle, will have a release party for its third CD next Friday, April 4 at Wheat State Grille at 9 p.m.
The new disc, titled “1861,” is the band’s first for the NorthernBlues label.
Billing itself as a “stomping Mississippi Hill country, Delta and rural blues” band, Moreland & Arbuckle released one previous CD under its name and one as Moreland, Arbuckle & Floyd. “1861” was released on March 18.
Guitarist Moreland, nicknamed “Chainsaw,” was born in Madison, and vocalist and blues harp player Dustin Arbuckle grew up in Andover. Drummer Brad Horner joins the duo for its electric performances.
The album “1861,” named for the year Kansas was granted statehood, includes nine original songs and three covers. Their previous two albums, 2005’s “Caney Valley Blues” and 2006’s “Floyd’s Market,” both reached the top 25 of Living Blues magazine’s radio chart.
Short music clips from all three albums can be found on the band’s Web site, www.morelandarbuckle.com.
The release party will not have a cover charge.
