A Texan accused of drug trafficking in Lyon County was sentenced on Tuesday to five years in federal prison.
Derrick Lynn Moore, 42, of Ducanville, Texas, had been arrested on Interstate Highway 35 by a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper.
The trooper had pulled him over on June 15, 2007.
Moore had claimed to be traveling to Kansas City to pick up a car his aunt had purchased on eBay, according to a news release from Jim Cross, public information officer for U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren.
“But Moore didn’t have any paperwork,” Cross said. “He seemed nervous and he couldn’t tell the trooper exactly where he was going in Kansas City.”
The drugs were found in an auxiliary fuel tank that had been modified with a hidden compartment, Cross said.
Moore pleaded guilty in January to one count of possession of about 4 kilograms (8.8 pounds) of cocaine with intent to distribute.
The case was turned over to the federal system for prosecution.
