ABOUT TOWN

Bridge is finished

The road and bridge department said that Road M, which has been closed between U.S. Highway 56 and Road 370 since November for a bridge replacement, is now open again.

Road closes today

The county is closing Road 110 between Road G and Road H today for replacement of a bridge. The project is expected to take until the end of May.

Teachers’ contracts

The first interest-based bargaining session between the Emporia school district and the Emporia National Education Association representatives will be on Monday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Mary Herbert Learning Center.

A second session is scheduled from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 5, according to information provided by Nancy Horst, community relations director for the district. That meeting also will be at Mary Herbert.

Teacher contract negotiations have been termed “interest-based bargaining” sessions in recent years.

IBB “allows two parties to professionally review issues by sharing interests, brainstorming options, and evaluating the strength of possible options in an effort to seek mutually agreeable solutions as a committee of one,” Horst said.

Birthday cards

Doris Hunter will celebrate her 90th birthday April 1. A card shower is requested, with cards to be sent to 824 Lakeview St., Emporia, KS 66801.

Card shower

The family of former Emporian Wayne Ireland would like to request a card shower for him during this difficult time because he is ill. His address is Masonic Towers, 402 S. Martinson, Wichita, KS 67213.
