Orientation helper
Hali Baker of Council Grove, a senior at the University of Kansas, is one of 22 students chosen to serve as an orientation leader for 2008-09 to assist with KU’s new student orientation programs. Baker, who served last year, is studying journalism and mass communications (strategic communications emphasis) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She is the daughter of David and Cheerie Baker and a graduate of Council Grove High School.
Riding award
Vicki L. Crosby of Osage City recently earned an award for logging 100 hours in the American Quarter Horse Association Horseback Riding Program. The program recognizes and rewards AQHA members for time spent with their American quarter horses in activities such as trail rides, working cattle, pleasure riding and simply riding. Veterinary award
Keith DeDonder of Reading, fourth-year student in veterinary medicine at Kansas State University received the third place award from the KSU Sigma chapter of Phi Zeta, the veterinary honor society, for his clinical science research presentation, “Validation of Lung Scoring System by Comparison of Ante-Mortem Lung Sounds with Gross and Histological Post-Mortem Lung Lesions.” The Phi Zeta Research Day was held March 4 at KSU.
Farm ambassadors
Students from this area at the Kansas State University College of Agriculture named as Agriculture Ambassadors were Jenny Combes of Lebo, junior in agribusiness and Casey Mushrush of Strong City, sophomore in milling science and management. The ambassadors work with prospective students, alumni, industry leaders and college faculty and students.
Is competing for scholarship
Anneliese Byram of Council Grove, senior at Kansas State University studying interior architecture and product design, is one of five KSU students nominated to compete for $5,000 Morris K. Udall scholarships. Byram is the vice president of K-State Fair Trade Advocates, the social chairman for interior architecture and product design and a student ambassador for the College of Architecture, Planning and Design. She is also a member of Emerging Green Builders, Students for Environmental Action, Philanthropic Educational Organization and Amnesty International. Byram, a 2004 graduate of Council Grove High School, is the daughter of Harry II and Melanie Byram of Council Grove.
