I AM WRITING this letter to tell you about CoCoRaHS. CoCoRaHS stands for Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network.
This network is a group of citizens who volunteer to measure the amount of precipitation each day and report the information to scientists. Our scientists and government do not have enough collection stations to draw a complete picture of moisture across the United States.
Our scientists and government use this information to learn about changes in our weather, to warn us of flooding and hail, determine what areas of the country are suffering drought, identify those areas with too much rain and track heavy snow accumulation. Farmers and teachers use this information, too.
CoCoRaHS needs you! All you need to participate is a rain gauge, a snow stick, an Internet access and a willingness to read your gauges once each day at the same time. You can learn more about CoCoRaHS and volunteering at http://www.cocorahs.org/.
March is the month that we compete to see which state can bring in the most new volunteers. Please join me and my weather friends and make a difference.
