Amtrak study
TOPEKA — Kansas transportation officials have asked Amtrak to study the possible expansion of rail service from Kansas City to Oklahoma City. Emporia is among cities that have expressed interest.
The rail line will look at connecting two existing routes — one that runs from Kansas City to Newton, the other from Fort Worth, Texas, to Oklahoma City. The study would be paid for by the Kansas Department of Transportation at a cost of $150,000 to $200,000. It would begin this summer and be completed in the fall of 2009.
