Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at Pyramid Pizza. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

Emporia Masonic Lodge 12 meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

Tuesday

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Literary League meets at 1:30 p.m. with Onnalee Harrell. Mabel Smith will give a book review, “Reader’s Choice.”

The Etude Club meets at 1:30 p.m. with Jan Smoots. The program will be “Tallgrass Prairie.”

The Research Club meets with Norma Waddell. Gayla Bazil will present the program.

Single Adult Fellowship group meets at 6 p.m. every Tuesday during March at Bobby D’s Merchant St. BBQ, 607 Merchant St. Information: Rufus Hobbs, 392-5780.

The Kiwanis Club meets at 6:15 p.m. in the Commander’s Room at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

The Emporia Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association meets at 6:30 p.m. after dinner at the Emporia Public Library, 110 E. Sixth Ave. The speaker will be Michael Powers, administrative judicial judge of the Seventh District Court. The Sunrise Rotary Club meets at 7 a.m. at the Regency Gardens, 3021 W. Highway 50.

The Noon Lions Club meets at noon in the Skyline Room of the ESU Memorial Union.

The Senior Singles Group for 50+ singles desiring Christian fellowship meets at noon in the Regency Gardens restaurant at the Best Western Inn, 3021 W. Highway 50. The group orders from the menu and there is usually a program. Information: 342-6186.

The Emporia Gardeners of America Club meets at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 823 Merchant St. The program will be given by Dan Parcel of Kaw Valley Greenhouses in Manhattan. Guests are welcome. Members will have a perennial plant potting party from 9 a.m. to noon March 29 at Scheller’s Lawn and Landscape in preparation for the annual plant sale on April 26.

The Emporia Camera Club meets at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St. Jack and Mary Melhorn will present the program, “A Bit of Norway.” Hosts are Jim and Bev Dillman.

Miriam Chapter 14 of the Order of the Eastern Star meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the Wheat State Grille, this week only.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

Altrusa International of Emporia meets for the Membership Tea at the home of Jan Miley, hostess.

Flint Hills Area Vietnam Veterans meets at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 5, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

Friday

P.E.O. Chapter GT meets at 1:15 p.m. with Donna Seibel, assisted by Mary Ann Schaeffer and Chris Hosey. Emporia city manager Matt Zimmerman will give the program, “Planning for Emporia’s Future.” Carol Reneau will give the projects report about the International Peace scholarships.

Saturday

The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in the main terminal at the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport. Information: 342-3598.
