Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported that the city of Burlington employees will receive a 4.6 percent wage increase, effective the first full pay period of April.
The Burlington City Council approved the across-the-board increase, recommended by the city’s finance committee. Based on employment levels, a 4.6 cost of living increase means the city will spend an additional $48,000 annually on wages.
Council Grove
The Council Grove Republican reported that city sales tax revenue for 2007 was the highest of the four years since the tax was approved in a 2003 election.
The total last year was $366,849.88. This compares to $357,026.36 in 2006; $343,924.28 in 2005; and $362,576.21 in 2004.
LeRoy
The Coffey County Republican reported that a group of Southern Coffey County High School students are planning an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Students and staff members Russ Baxley and Mike Kastle are putting together the Honor Flight of World War II veterans to go to Washington, D.C. in mid-April. The purpose of Honor Flight is to have these veterans visit the memorial. The visit will give the veterans an opportunity to view their memorial.
Council Grove
The Council Grove Republican reported that the fishing outlook for 2008 in Council Grove Reservoir is good. Craig Johnson, district fisheries biologist, of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks said the saugeye population at the lake is excellent this year.
