The Emporia State track and field team got off to a strong start at the indoor National Championships in Mankato, Minn.
The Hornets’ best showings came in the high jump, where Alex Pyle placed third, Dustin Andrews took fourth and Craig Saalfeld finished eighth.
All three athletes earned All-American distinction.
ESU’s Brooke Kent also became an All-American with her sixth-place finish in the long jump.
Kenton Lonberger was the only other ESU athlete to compete. He has the second-best time entering today’s semifinals in the 200-meter run.
The freshman’s time in the 60-meter run was not good enough to advance to today’s semifinals.
“We’re all on target with where we want to be,” ESU track and field coach Dave Harris said. “It’s been a great experience with all the young kids we have.”
