The Emporia High track and field team came away with 12 event titles in the first meet of the season Thursday at the Shawnee Heights Early Bird Relays.

EHS had seven event winners on the girls side and another five on the boys side.

The Spartans’ day was led by a pair of relay victories on the girls side. The 1,600-meter sprint medley relay squad of Rhani Henry, Keshia Harris, Ciera Hastings and Michaela Reynolds won in a time of 5 minutes, 3.40 seconds, while the 4,000-meter distance medley team of Jenna Stanbrough, Taylor Elbe, Cindy Meinholdt and Reynolds took the title in a time of 14:08.24.

The EHS girls swept the hurdles events, as Henry won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.91 seconds while Vanessa Rogers took the 300-meter hurdles title in a time of 55.27 seconds.

The other two EHS victories on the girls side came in the field events. Freshman Sarah Kolmer won the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 8 inches, while junior Raelynn Pearson took the discus event with a toss of 110-07.

The EHS boys also came away with a pair of relay victories.
