ESU wins 10 events at Spring Twilight meet

Competing without eight athletes in the Indoor National Championships, the Emporia State track and field team still managed to take 10 championships at the Mike’s Sporting Goods Spring Twilight Meet on Wednesday in Emporia.
Douglas Marshall was ESU’s only two-event individual champion, as he won both the triple jump and long jump.
Eric Wellman took first in the mile, as ESU swept the top five positions in the event.
Skyler Delmott won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, beating out teammates Cody Burns and William Hohmeier, who took second and third, respectively.
Michael Stephens added a victory the 800-meter run, while Josh Schuler took first in the 100-meter run.
The only other men’s championship for ESU came from its ‘A’ team in the 4x400 relay.
On the women’s side, Jaclyn Sill won the 400-meter run, while Renae Weaver was first in the 100-meter run and also helped the 4x100 relay team to a win.
Connie Philips was ESU’s only provisional qualifier, as she placed second in the javelin (136 feet, 6 inches).
The Hornets’ next outdoor meet will come March 29 at the UT-Arlington Invitational.
