County asked to endorse city plans

Emporia’s comprehensive plan was on Wednesday’s county agenda to gain county commissioners’ blessing.

Kevin Hanlin of city zoning asked Lyon County commissioners to look at the city’s comprehensive plan, which was approved by Emporia City commissioners. Hanlin said the county’s approval is being sought because the plan serves the growth not only of the city, but the county as well.

County Commissioner Marshall Miller inquired about a note in documents that stated the city failed to publicize the public hearing of the plan, which is required by statute. Hanlin said the failure to publicize the hearing in January was discovered and corrected.

“I should have clarified that,” Hanlin said. “In February it was publicized that there would be a public hearing. That was held and everything is in accordance with that statute.”

County Counselor Marc Goodman confirmed after the county meeting that the city did get the notice publicized.

County commissioners moved the item to today’s agenda under other business.

In other matters:

F Chris Wilkinson of Lyon County Facilities Management reviewed a bid regarding carpeting the Lyon County Annex (Old Lyon County Courthouse), elevator and third floor and will discuss carpeting an office in the Lyon County Attorney’s Office.

F Commissioners reviewed the agenda for Lyon County Planning/Appeals Board regular meeting on Wednesday evening.

When will Emporia wake up? Hanlin and the rest should give the public plenty of notice. Why Not?
It is good to see Hanlin having to answer to the LAW.
I say to everyone-time to get Hanlin and the rest out and put honest folks in- wake up Emporia!
