Lyndon, Madison dominate girls All-LCL selections

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Lyndon and Madison each had two players named All-Lyon County League on the girls side, while players from five different schools made up the boys first-team selections, which were announced Monday.

On the girls side, Lyndon seniors Krista Banzhaf and Stephanie Goetz each were named first-teamers, along with Madison super sophomores Shelby Buster and Morgan Stout.

Waverly junior Megan Steward claimed the fifth spot on the first team.

Surprisingly, the league champion on the girls side, Olpe, did not have a player named to the first team. Instead, the Lady Eagles dominated the second-team balloting, placing four players on the squad.

Seniors Kylie Haag and Megan Woods, junior Katie Moyer and freshman Kathryn Flott all earned second-team distinctions, joining Hartford’s Amy Bolen and Burlingame’s Meghan Atchison.

On the boys side, the only non-senior on the first team was from the league champion, Olpe, as junior Cole Krueger headlined the boys first-team selections.

Joining Krueger were Burlingame’s Chris Patterson, Lebo’s Blake Jones, Madison’s Eric Porter and Marais des Cygnes Valley’s Dennis Becker.

Named to the second team were Chase County’s Brian Palermo, Flinthills’ Grant Vogt, Lebo’s Cameron Smith, Lyndon’s Derek Banzhaf and Madison’s Kaleb Schankie.

No. Heights squads land 8 All-League picks

After Northern Heights’ girls and boys basketball teams each advanced to the Class 3A State Tournament this season, the Ladycats and Wildcats were rewarded by having a total of eight players named All-Flint Hills League.

The Northern Heights girls had two first-team selections: Sarah Boline and Amy Lee. Andrea Miller and Alex DeLong received honorable mention.

On the boys side, the Wildcats, who finished fourth in their first-ever trip to State, saw three players garner first-team honors: Haydon Parks, Michael Glass and Pete Symmonds. Levi Hizar was an honorable mention selection.

I think it's a little strange that the #1 team in the league with a record of 25-1 didn't have ANY players on the 1st All LCL team. What's the deal with that?! I think there are some haters out there that don't want to see Olpe succeed AGAIN! They might as well get used to it. Coach Nelson has a championship team EVERY year and that's not going to change. It's too bad the girls didn't get the recognition they deserve.

Pretty bogus.
How are, say ... Flott and Moyer in particular, not 1st team?
Oh, well. The Lady Eagles got the title and the trophy.
Maybe they use all-league as a consolation prize.
