Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at Pyramid Pizza. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

The Reading Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. at the Reading Community Building.

Tuesday

The Flint Hills Regional Quilt Guild meets at 10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month at the Emporia Presbyterian Church West Campus, 1702 W. 15th Ave. The guest speaker will be Carol Elmore of Manhattan who will talk about “Historical Quilts” and show the “Eisenhower” quilt.

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

P.E.O. Chapter HY meets with Virginia Lowther. Lori Heller will present the program, “EPL Children’s Librarian.” Cathy Hoy will give the Cottey College report.

The Kiwanis Club meets at 6:15 p.m. in the Commander’s Room at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the ESU Memorial Union.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave. Walter Spencer will present the program.

The Flint Hills Genealogical Society meets at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the Emporia Public Library large meeting room, 110 E. Sixth Ave.

Saturday

The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in the main terminal at the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport. Information: 342-3598.
