Kiwanis pancakes

The Kiwanis Club of Emporia will have its 60th annual Pancake Day from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Anderson Building on the Lyon County Fairgrounds.

The cost is $5 at the door for adults, $4 for children and no charge for children 3 and under. Advance tickets are $4 each and are available from club members. Tickets entitle the holders to all the pancakes they care to eat, one sausage and one milk or unlimited coffee. More sausage and milk are available at an additional charge.

Emergency supplement

The Lyon County Emergency Food and Shelter Program has been chosen by a national board to receive $19,254 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. A local board including representatives of the Emporia Rescue Mission, Lyon County Commission, Kansas Department of Social Rehabilitation Services, the Salvation Army, SOS, American Red Cross, ECKAN, Ministerial Association, Lyon County Restricted Emergency Fund, United Way of the Flint Hills and Lyon County Department on Aging determines what agencies will get the money.

Public or private agencies interested in applying for funds should e-mail local board chairman Lynn Smith at lynn.smith07@gmail.com or United Way office manager Tina Andrews at tinaa@uwfh.org, or go to 702 Commercial St., Suite 2-E or call 342-7564 for an application.

The deadline for applications to be received is 2 p.m. March 24, when the board will meet in the Emporia Public Library meeting room.
