Truck ends up in river

More information has been released on an accident reported Wednesday in which a pickup truck was swallowed up by a river near Emporia.

According to a report from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Lucas Dieker, 18, was driving a 1998 Dodge pickup truck in the 500 block of Road 162 when he realized he was on a dead-end road.

As he attempted to turn around in the road, Dieker drove too close to the river bank, the truck rolled into the river, and the cab began filling with water.

Dieker and a passenger, Jacob W. Ewing, 19, managed to escape through one of the truck’s windows.

“By the time Lucas and Jacob crawled up the bank the truck was completely submerged in the water,” Deputy Danny Broyles stated in a news release.

The men walked to a nearby home and called the sheriff’s office.

“Due to the high water level and the current being extremely swift, the location of the truck is currently unknown,” Broyles said.

I'd say it's underwater, but I'm no expert.

Sounds like these two boys should run for president. I bet they can sell you a load of cow manure and tell you it smells like roses.

lmao at slipandslide(your alias fits this too).

I can just hear the fishing stories now. "Man I hooked a big one down at the river, it felt like it weighed a couple of tons! I fought it for an hour or so, it was like that fish had a Hemi in it dude, he pulled hard downstream like he was in four wheel drive or something, but then it broke my line and got away"

And Bj, no that's what the truck smells like now :)

Sure, it's great that they survived the incident, I'm sure everybody agrees with that statement. They should have expected to get some redicule with a story like what they gave the LEO's. Everyone who has heard about this on the radio, or read about the incident in the Gazette, that were once their age, knows what they were doing down that road. They were playing in the mud with their truck, not innocently driving down a dead end road. There are only a few river bridges between Soden's Grove and Chase Co. Road 162 isn't one of those. They had monumental lapse of intelligence when they got too close to the river bank and it cost them their truck, while giving some of us a much need break from seriousness.

Amen, Neighbor. Of course we are all happy those two boys were not injured, or worse. But let's get real; we aren't buying that story for a minute. Most of us guys have been there and done that. When I was that age I pulled stunts much more stupid than that one and offered explanations that made less sense. I'm sure they are fine young men but they messed up and will learn from it. The important thing is they lived to take the heat. We are only having so much fun at their expense because they ARE okay. Sure beats the alternative, don't you think?

Its crap that all teenagers get criticized for things that only a few actually do...I know we have all done stupid things in life...but not everyone is like that....Its funny you guys think this story is fishy and think that they were mudding down there....How about you go down there and check that whole field for ruts from his tires...you aint gonna find any....If you dont know the real story dont criticize them.....

No one said anything about farm fields, four wheeling on muddy county roads and in the road ditches is wrong too. We aren't blaming it only teenagers, "adults" do that kind of stuff too. I won't be driving down there to check it out, I don't own land there and have no business being in there(hint-hint). I know alot of "adults" that should know better who go down roads in their 4x4 trucks when the roads are too muddy. If it's muddy enough to require the use of 4 wheel drive, the roads should not be driven on. Unless vandals removed the sign, I'd be willing to bet the road was signed as a dead end road. County roads that end at the river typically have guard rails across the road a ways back from the river. I suspect he wasn't on the County road any longer when his truck went down the bank.

Chill out, Bigkahuna! Learn to take a joke. We old geezers are only making light of the situation because teenagers do stupid things. So did we. Now we are older and wiser and humor ourselves by poking fun at kids like you. When you have crossed that long bridge between mistakes and wisdom you, too can have some fun at the expense of the immature and reckless.
