Organizations in this area that need financial help for new or special projects may apply for a grant from the Emporia Community Foundation, according to a news release from the foundation.
Applications need to be in by April 1. The grants are intended for innovative and creative community projects, and community organizations from Lyon and the six surrounding counties are eligible to apply.
“The grants are designed not as money for on-going projects, or to augment operating funds, but to support undertakings that organizations want to initiate, but lack the necessary funding,” the news release stated.
Grants over the past few years have been modest, and most do not exceed $3,000. Last year, approximately $25,000 for health, social services, education, recreation and cultural activities was awarded from more than 60 requests received.
“Normally, projects should be of a size and scope to be funded in one lump sum and have enough volunteers and staff to carry out the project,” the news release stated.
ECF President Ken Buchele suggests applicants follow guidelines outlined on the Foundation’s Web site, www.emporiaecf.org.
Applications are available on-line or by calling the ECF office, 342-9304, or writing in care of PO Box 1337, Emporia KS 66801.
