HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) _ Only those with fast thumbs need enter one of the new attractions being planned for the 2008 Kansas State Fair.
A text messaging contest is among the additions to the 10-day fair in September, outlined Sunday by fair special events director Connie Schmitt. She said the North Dakota State Fair had a texting contest last year, which considered speed and spelling in naming a winner.
Fair Manager Denny Stoecklein joked that adults "wouldn't stand a chance" against young people known for their lightning-fast texting skills on cell phones.
And for creative fairgoers, there'll be a duct tape contest for those with ideas for dresses, purses and other items made out of the all-purpose tool.
