Ethan Hall’s no-hitter on Sunday against Lansing was the highlight of the weekend, as the Emporia A-16 Blues posted a 3-1 record in doubleheaders against Burlington and Lansing.

Emporia split with Burlington’s AAA team on Saturday, losing 12-4 in Game One before winning the second game, 9-7.

The Blue squad was dominant against Lansing on Sunday in 11-0 and 18-2 victories.

“We just played really well defensively, offensively and pitching-wise,” Emporia coach Dick Evans said. “We looked really stunning up there in Lansing.”

Most impressive was Hall, who threw a six-inning no-hitter to lead Emporia in Game One on Sunday.

Evans said the right-hander had improved quite a bit just in the last year.

“He’s learned to control all his pitches a lot better,” Evans said. “He can throw all his pitches for strikes, and he’s become a really smart pitcher.”

Jacob Loucks started Game Two, with Matt Fry coming on in relief after Emporia built an 18-0 lead.

Nate Flanagin paced Emporia’s offense, contributing a triple, double and single.

On Saturday, the Blue squad recovered from a loss to pick up a Game Two victory.

Zach Nowell and Nick Hrabik pitched in the first game, but they didn’t get much help from their offense.

“It takes the guys a while to realize they can play with those older kids,” Evans said. “We just started kind of slow.”

Remington Pinick started Game Two, picking up help later from relievers Fry and Loucks.

The Blue squad will travel to face Burlington on Wednesday.
