Burglary suspects arrested

Monday, June 30, 2008

Three people were arrested after an auto burglary reported Sunday evening in Emporia.

Emporia Police Department Deputy Chief Mike Williams said in a press release this morning that police officers responded to a call of a possible auto burglary at approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday. While en route to the call, Officer Rob Turner saw a vehicle whose occupants matched the descriptions given by a witness. With the assistance of Officers Bill Ross, Jim Tilton, Justin Hill and an Emporia State University officer, the necessary information was gathered to arrest the suspects at the scene. Hector Luis Gomez, Richard Gregg Primera and Hector Velazquez, all of Emporia, were arrested and are expected to be charged with auto burglary and criminal damage to property.

“The result of the successful conclusion of this incident is a direct result of a local resident working with police,” said Police Chief Gary Smith.

Anyone having information about this incident or related auto burglaries may call police at 343-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 342-2273.

Since it involved the Emporia Police Department and it was issued by the Emporia Police Department, that probably is a good guess.

Such nice people here. Try to keep it civil folks. I suspect that the locations were provided to the paper. They edit what they want. It's public record, I'm sure if you want to go down to the police department they will give you that information or maybe the print copy of the paper actually puts it in there.

Burglary is one of those crimes that we think little about, until it happens to us. Good job, Police Department. You clearly saved others from becoming victims.

Yeah my car got broken into several years ago and it was terrible. I sure wish that it was alright to shoot someone who was breaking into your car, because I wish I would have been able to do that when mine got broken into. Once the news got out about people getting shot trying to steal others things I bet there would be alot less burglers running around town. I think I despise thiefs so much, sneeking around in the darkness stealing others hard earned money. I hope they end up in prison someday and get something of their's "stolen" there, If you know what I mean!!! LOL

To Whom It May Concern,

Thats why I use 24/7 Video Surveillance, Car alarms connected to my cell phone and a German Shepherd trained not to trust you unless I am present and say it's ok.

Where I used to live, everyone in my neighborhood, if you could call it a neighborhood, had been robbed in one way or another.. Sometimes at gun point. You couldn't trust the Police either.

Not being able to break into my car or living quarters they stole my darling German Shepherd puppy when I was not monitoring the surveillance cameras for only 10 minutes.

My darling Yoda Boy the German Shepherd had been sold for drug money within 20 minutes.

I was in a foreign country and I found my darling Yoda Boy the German Shepherd puppy 5 city blocks away inside of an out of the way small store, My darling, darling Yoda Boy had been dragged by his ears but with 30 minutes without the assistance of the Police I found him!!!

Emporia Police and Campus Police you did a fine job with the stolen car guys, congratulations on the team work!

However, you just can't touch the work I used to do without formal backup and not a word of English was spoken.

I can't reveal my methods or sources but I got my darling, darling Yoda Boy back in the toughest neighborhoods you can't even imagine.

Why Emporia Police, especially Lt Kelsch would not want federal extra ordinary experience on the force is beyond me.

"There are only two things that are infinite, human stupidity and the Universe and I'm not sure about the Universe."

Lieutenant Kelsch whats your beef?

Yours very sincerely and respectfully,

The location of the call was not provided to the Gazette in the press release dated June 30, 2008 at 8:18 a.m. The first portion of the release reads as follows "Emporia police officers responded to a call of a possible auto burglary at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday June 29, 2008." No address was given in the release. According to daily report logs, an auto burglary was reported around that time in the 1200 block of Cottonwood Street. This is the only auto burglary on the police logs on Sunday.

If anyone has any questions regarding where crimes are occuring in Emporia, please check our daily report logs, where we place when and where crimes occur and what types. This typically runs on page 2 of the paper or online under "Daily Report."

They did a wonderful job and they did have seasoned veteran officers involved with the situation too. They do need all the help they can get from the public which is what it is going to take to help curb the crime rate. I do not think Emporia is such a bad town that I need to sit in front of a monitor all day watching my stuff or stay up all night peeking out of my windows at every movement but common steos just need to be taken to help ensure the safety of you, your family and your belongings. List of items. serial numbers even a picture for insurance purpose of your rooms in your home. I have lived in bad neighborhoods in Topeka and Kansas City and I have to say I do feel pretty safe here regaurdless of where I am at in town.
