Chase County

The Chase County Leader-News reported that Chase County USD 284 School Board hired a replacement for Chase County High School Principal Stan Elliott, who submitted her resignation at the June 9 board meeting. The board hired John Ireland for a two-year contract, renewable at the end of the first year. Ireland is the son of former USD 284 superintendent Charlie Ireland, who retired in 1987.

Strong City

The Chase County Leader-News reported that the Kansas Department of Transportation will not be taking possession of Cottonwood Street from Fourth Street to Highway 50. KDOT official Joe Palic had informed the city office that the Kansas Secretary of State is no longer allowing the KDOT to acquire more highway miles.

Greenwood County

The Eureka Herald reported that the Greenwood Preservation Society learned this week that the organization has been awarded the Transportation Enhancement project grant through the Kansas Department of Transportation. These are federal funds administered through KDOT and will cover construction costs for the first floor renovation and exterior restorations of the Greenwood Hotel built in Eureka in 1883. The grant will total $990,000.
