MANY OTHERS and I have waited for a report about the Symphony in the Flint Hills performance on June 14 and still the “world famous Emporia Gazette” has not one word or photo about this event. Did I miss something or have you simply delayed writing a story about this third annual important event of the Flint Hills?
I am aware of the many newsworthy happenings from which you and your staff have to select, but an event of this magnitude should receive some notice in a regional paper such as The Gazette. You must be aware of the unique importance of the Symphony in the Flint Hills to our city, region and our state.
And, as you look carefully at any Symphony publication, you will notice the chairwoman of the board of directors is Emporia’s Cathy Hoy, there are Emporians on the advisory board and many Emporians serving as volunteers. I cannot imagine the staff of The Gazette not being aware of this sold-out event and would expect that some of you were among the 5,000 paying participants.
If The Gazette is “world famous,” as Dr. John Peterson claims it to be, then I suggest it make it a priority to cover the fourth Symphony in the Flint Hills to be held June 13, 2009, near Florence. And, if you cannot spare the time of one of your reporters, then I will personally help you identify a qualified individual to fill this important gap in your paper’s offerings.
