The Emporia Church of Christ, 12th and Neosho St., Vacation Bible School, for ages pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, will be from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday with the theme of “The Incredible Race.” Lessons include “The Race to Bethlehem” and “The Race to Damascus.” VBS will be followed immediately by the Neighbor Day activities of food, fun and games until 7 p.m. All events are open to the public.
Faith Lutheran Church, 1348 Trail Ridge Road, has VBS 9 to 11:30 a.m. from July 7 through July 11.
The Admire-Allen Vacation Bible School will be held for children from 4 through 12 years from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 7 through July 11. The “Beach Party - Surfin’ Through the Scriptures” theme will be used and the last evening will be a family night. For more information about the Tri Parish VBS, call Jami Mott at (620) 538-3502.
The H.O.M.E. Groups (Homes Open for Ministry and Encouragement) of Lamont Wesleyan Church have begun a series of community picnics. The next picnic will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday in Kelley Park at Burlington, with hosts Vance and Kelsy Crutchfield and Charlie and Jill Whitworth. The event will be a “Summer Splash” with a luau-theme for the entire community. A roasted pig, beverages and condiments will be provided; attendees are to bring side dishes to share and lawn chairs. Activities planned include a dunk tank, water slide, hula hoop competition and other “damp” activities, said the press release. Participants are recommended to bring sunglasses, wear hula skirts, Hawaiian shirts, bring water pistols and towels.

Americus United Methodist Church begins Sunday worship at 8 a.m., followed by Sunday school for all ages beginning at 9:30 a.m. Worship with children’s church for those 5 and younger is held at 10:30 a.m. Child care is available, along with breakfast. This will be the Rev. Bud Tuxhorn’s last Sunday to preach at the Americus church. A covered-dish luncheon will be served after the service. Meat will be provided; participants are to bring side dishes. The community is invited.

AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) for children from the age of 3 years through the eighth grade meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the church to “memorize Bible verses, learn about God and have fun.” Transportation is available by calling 342-4142 (if one has ridden the bus in the past, he/she will need to call again).
