Upcoming events at Flint Hills Technical College:

• Saturday — Fall enrollment, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Complete your application for admission, take the assessment entrance exam and get enrolled in classes. Students may be able to get everything done in just one day. Fall classes begin Aug. 8

• July 7–28 — Knitting, Mondays, 6 to 8 p.m. Instructor Ellen Hansen will teach knitting techniques to make a variety of simple knitted garments. The focus will be on knitting to help others, so projects will include hats for premature babies, simple shawls for the prayer shawl ministry, caps for keeping heads warm for people undergoing chemotherapy, and similar projects. Knitting needles, yarn and patterns will be available for use at the first class session, so no purchase before the class is necessary.

• July 7-10 — Pre-GED and GED Orientation, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 5 to 8 p.m. Attendance at all four sessions (either morning or evening) is mandatory; ESL Classes begin, 8:30 to 11 a.m. or 3 to 5:30 p.m.

• July 7-11 — Kid’s College, 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. A week-long, half-day activity designed just for children that have completed 4th, 5th or 6th grade. Children will have the opportunity to explore a variety of careers with lots of fun, hands-on activities! To register your child call 343-4600 or 800-711-6947.

• July 10 — Roll Your Own Vegetarian Sushi with instructor Regina Murphy, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Students will love the great textures and flavors of vegetarian sushi, using raw, roasted and cooked vegetables wrapped in sweet sushi rice and salty seaweed. Learn how to make the rice and use bamboo mats to roll up a great appetizer or entire meal. Just watch out for the wasabi!

• July 12 — Fall enrollment, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• July 12–13 — Basic Woodcarving II with instructor Millard Harrell, 9 am. to 5 p.m. July 12, 1 to 5 p.m. July 13. Woodcarving techniques will be discussed and skills learned for using standard woodcarving tools. An in the round or relief project may be chosen for the project. For beginning to intermediate carvers. No prior woodcarving experience necessary. Wood for the project will be available for purchase at the seminar. Participants should bring their own sharp woodcarving tools.

• July 14–18 — Kid’s College, 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. To register your child call 343-4600 or 800-711-6947.
