Freedom Rally

A Freedom Rally will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in Peter Pan Park featuring the Rev. Bill McLemore and Denise Ledbetter. There will be free food, live music by Cody James of the “Gage Street Station” and motorcycles. The event is brought to Emporia by Strongtower Christian Mission Ministries, Heartland Samaritan Riders and Mothers Against Methamphetamine. For more information, call 341-9620.

Night at the Museum

The “Night at the Museum” will feature Lonnie Phifer, who will talk about “Women Physicians in the West” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lyon County Historical Museum.

Porch series

The Sunday On the Porch Series at the William Allen White House State Historic Site, 927 Exchange St., features Lisa Moritz - “Songs on the Porch.” According to the news release, Lisa Moritz “performs her original songs which are lyrics driven. Words and music, two things William Allen White loved.” Her performance is “a nod to music in the White home.” For more information, see http://www.lisamoritz.com/bio.html. The performance is free of charge, but donations in support of the site are suggested. For the normal fee, participants may tour the site at the conclusion of the program. Brown Bag

The Wednesday noon Brown Bag concert at the Emporia Public Library, 110 E. Sixth Ave., will present Patriotic Pride, Shows on the Go. Children who are present at 11 a.m. can create an art project with the Emporia Arts Council. Pizza and beverages will be sold by Wheat State Pizza. Participants are to bring lawn chairs as seating is limited. In case of inclement weather, events will be held inside the library.

Young Thespians

The Young Thespian Players will perform “Blather, Blarney and Balderdash” in the Black Box Theatre at the Emporia Arts Center on July 10, 11 and 12. The July 10 and 11 shows will each begin at 7:30 p.m., while the 12th will feature two shows, one at 2 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale an hour before each show at the arts center.

Kid’s College

Kid’s College at the Flint Hills Technical College will be offered July 7 through 11 and from July 14 through 18. This is a week-long,half-day activity for children who have completed fourth, fifth or sixth grade. Children will have the opportunity to explore a variety of careers with lots of fun, hands-on activities, said the news release. Each session is limited to 20 children. The cost is $75 each student per five-day session. Times for session are 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. For more information or reservations, call FHTC at 343-4600.
