Cubmobile Racing

Packs of Cub Scouts will race their home-made, foot-powered “Cubmobiles” at 9 a.m. Saturday on a racetrack at the Flint Hills Technical College.

The event is the first of its kind for Scouts and other boys in the Emporia area.

Door prizes will be awarded, including passes for skating, bowling and swimming, and gift certificates from the Gun Den, J’s Carry Out and Dayton’s Hobby Shop.

Boys in grades one through five are welcome to participate, whether or not they are in Cub Scouts, according to information from Erik McGuire of the Scout Council. More information may be had by calling McGuire, 481-0910.

Card shower

Esther Chapman will celebrate her 90th birthday on Sunday. A card shower has been requested by her family with cards to be sent to 1257 Road 160, Emporia, KS 66801.

Daylilies blooming for tour

This year’s turbulent weather may have been perfect for daylilies, which now are blooming at Toad Hollow east of Emporia, according to co-owner Nina West.

West and her husband, Gaylord, will be hosts for the annual Toad Hollow Daylily tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

To reach Toad Hollow, drive east on Interstate Highway 35 to Exit 135; turn south one block on Road R1 and turn east, and drive one block on Road 170. Toad Hollow sits on the north side of Road 170.

For more information, call West at 343-8655.

People renewing registrations must bring proof of insurance for all vehicles being renewed.

Motor Vehicle division office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
