Emporia School Board

Ratification of changes to the teachers’ master contract and approval of administrator and classified salaries for the coming school year are on the agenda for the Emporia board of education meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mary Herbert Education Center, 1700 W. Seventh Ave.

The board will hear a report on the district wellness plan and will appoint a board representative to the Emporia Recreation Commission board of directors.

Among items on the consent agenda are staff appointments, resignations and retirements; a proposed increase in building rental fees; and a request to let bids for a combination oven/steamer for the Food Service department.

Lyon County Commission

Lyon County commissioners will meet for a study session starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the Lyon County Commission chambers of the Lyon County Courthouse. Items on the agenda include:

• 8:15 a.m. — Commissioners, counselor, controller reports

• 8:30 a.m. — Russell Torrens, noxious weeds, will discuss the 2009 annual management plan and discuss truck bids.

• 8:45 a.m. — Robert Sullivan will discuss the lease agreement for copier, fax and printer.

• 9 a.m. — Chip Woods, Lyon County engineer, will discuss the low bid of McPherson Concrete Products Inc. for the eight precast boxes for a total of $60,427.68; review the road and sign supervisor’s reports; review shop work for June 2 through June 13; review crushed rock distribution list through May.

• 9:45 a.m. — Brian Rees, of the Lyon County Extension Office, will discuss allowing storage of firearms and ammunition on county property for 4-H sports group.

• 10 a.m. — Richard Old, Lyon County undersheriff, will discuss appropriating up to $6,000 to purchase and install improved microphone systems on in-car video units from forfeiture fund; discuss appropriating up to $850 tuition and travel expenses for deputy to attend criminal interdiction training for four days in Kansas City, Mo., in August.
