Chase County Alumni Banquet

The 100th annual Chase County Alumni Banquet and Old School Days celebration will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Events include a Friday night barbecue and variety show, Saturday parade, 100th annual alumni banquet, free street dance and Sunday golf tournament.

The barbecue, provided by Bad Ol’ Berns, begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Swope Park and includes an ice cream social. The variety show begins at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday begins with a parade of classes at 11 a.m. The parade is a new event and all participants are to be at the high school by 10:30 a.m. The parade route will follow north of the high school to Broadway and then proceed east of the courthouse to Swope Park. The 100th alumni banquet starts at 4 p.m. with tours and registration; the meal will be served at 6 p.m. with a free street dance to be held on Broadway Street after the banquet and program.

The weekend events conclude Sunday with the eighth annual alumni golf tournament. The event is open to all and is being held at the Cottonwood Falls Country Club. The four-man scramble begins at 8 a.m. with the shotgun start at 9 a.m. There will be a social time held in the clubhouse for those not participating in the tournament. The cost to enter the tournament is $20 each person, with all proceeds to go to the alumni scholarship fund. All events are open to the public, with the exception of the alumni banquet. Back to school clothing and supply requests

The Salvation Army, 327 Constitution St., will take applications for back to school clothing and supplies for low income families in the Lyon County area from 10 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4 p.m. June 30 through July 3; and 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. July 7. All applicants are required to provide: Picture ID; proof of Lyon County residency (if not on ID); proof of ALL persons living in the home (SRS print out, medical cards, etc.); Proof of ALL household income (including wages, cash assistance, social security, child support, etc.) OR food stamp approval statement from SRS.
