The Emporia AAAs struggled in their Saturday doubleheader at Salina, dropping the first game, 17-1, before losing the nightcap, 13-2.
“The first game didn’t show up mentally. The second game, we came out played a little bit better,” Emporia AAA coach Aaron Lechien said. “We’re definitely improving. We just need to find that effort and enthusiasm every single pitch.”
Zach Gifford was the highlight of the doubleheader, going a combined 3-for-4. He was 1-for-2 with a double in Game One before going 2-for-2 in the matinee with a pair of singles.
Jared Krause, James Sparks, Cameron Smith and Dylan Smith added the AAAs’ other hits in the first game, while Michael Knight, Cameron Smith and Krause all had singles in Game Two.
Krause and Taylor Clark picked up the losses on the mound.
The AAAs will have a home doubleheader against Topeka on Thursday.
