Two injured in crash west of Emporia

Third vehicle sustains damage

Saturday, June 21, 2008

Two people were taken to Newman Regional Health Friday afternoon after a crash in the 400 block of West Highway 50, near Road D.

According to Lyon County Sheriff's Deputy Jerrod Fell, a 2005 Dodge passenger vehicle driven by Timothy W. Little, 40, was eastbound on the highway when Little attempted to pass another vehicle and struck an oncoming 2002 Chevy Cavalier driven by Richard J. Hunt, 47.

Debris from the accident struck a third vehicle, a 2004 Dodge Durango driven by Dustin D. Warnkentine, 28.

Little and Hunt were taken by Emporia-Lyon County Ambulance Service to Newman Regional Health.

Both men were treated and released, according to a spokesperson for Newman Regional Health.

i have followed much of the ongoing dog controversy with interest, and while i agree pitbulls can be good loving dogs their breeding carries within them potential for great harm when they are not. this potential is breed-specific compared to other breeds such as terriers and cocker spaniels. in addition, when pitts are bad and do attack, they are almost always owned by people who selected that breed because of its attack strength and tenacity. when such an attack does occur the dog pays the price, and the owner gets a slap on the wrist and is asked to promise that it won't happen again....and therein lies the rub. i have a proposal that allows us to put our money where our mouth is and would quickly solve this problem. resolve that when a dog (any breed) perpetrates an unprovoked attack resulting in the serious injury or death of any human or domestic animal, the owner of the offending animal would be immediately and summarily excecuted where they stood. vicious dog problem solved. i don't really expect this to happen but it does point out the crux of the problem. i, as the owner of two gentle loved terriers, would have no qualms living under such a law.....would you?

Great post to put under the story of a 2 car accident unless I missed the part of the pitbull running out and attacking the first car making it swerve into on coming traffic.

come gazette. do your job and remove the first post to this story. It has nothing to do with the article. LAZY LAZY LAZY on your part gazette. It seems you can only remove posts that hurt the image of the gazette. The rag that it is. Lets see how long it takes to remove my "slanderous" post.
