“Bell, Book, and Candle” is a comedy of bewitching amusement by John Van Druten. One of the American theatre’s favorite romantic comedies, it is about Gillian Holroyd, portrayed by 2008 graduate Robyn Verner of Wichita, an average witch who meets a publisher named Shepherd Henderson, played by Scott Swezey from Overland Park, who lives in her building. Wanting to keep Shepherd away from a longtime rival she casts a spell on him. Will she give up her powers to live with a mortal? And will her zany family help her keep her secret?
The cast also includes Ashley Kobza of Kearney, Neb., as Aunt Queenie Holroyd, Wamego native Paul Howard, junior, as Sidney Redlitch, and junior Gabe Moyer of Olathe as Gillian’s brother Nicky Holroyd.
Jim Ryan will be directing “Bell, Book and Candle,” with 2008 graduate Eric Luchen stage managing. Kyle Land, ESU alumnus, will be the lighting designer, with guest artist Rick Rasmussen of Seattle designing the set and costumes. ESU senior Tricia Stogsdill will design the hair and makeup.
