Garden tour

The Emporia Garden Tour sponsored by the Lyon County Extension Master Gardeners will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 the day of the tour. Call 341-3220 for more information.

Freedom Rally

A Freedom Rally will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 28 in Peter Pan Park featuring the Rev. Bill McLemore and Denise Ledbetter. There will be free food, live music by Cody James of the “Gage Street Station” and motorcycles. The event is brought to Emporia by Strongtower Christian Mission Ministries, Heartland Samaritan Riders and Mothers Against Methamphetamine. For more information, call 341-9620.

Porch series

The On the Porch Series at the William Allen White House State Historic Site, 927 Exchange St., features Jim Hoy at 2 p.m. Sunday with “Ranching on the Porch.” Hoy, professor of English at Emporia State University, is also the director of the center for Great Plains Study. He will discuss ranching at the turn of the 20th century, 1885-1915, a period of time in the Kansas economy that connects to the White story. Hoy is also an author, noted folklorist and storyteller. Brown Bag

The Wednesday noon Brown Bag concert at the Emporia Public Library, 110 E. Sixth Ave., will present Brian Wendling — juggling and humor. Children who are present at 11 a.m. can create an art project with the Emporia Arts Council. Pizza and beverages will be sold by Wheat State Pizza. Participants are to bring lawn chairs as seating is limited. In case of inclement weather, events will be held inside the library.

Parking lot concert

Live in the Lot, sponsored by Flint Hills Music, is held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot at Seventh Avenue and Merchant Street. Bands playing will be Baby Driver and Sean Richey at 7:30 p.m. and The High Life at 8:30 p.m.
