Play begins at Junior Amateur

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Three Emporia golfers are in the thick of the race to claim the Kansas Junior Amateur golf title, being played at Stagg Hill Golf Club in Manhattan this week.

Eric Reimer, Fletcher Harder and Bren Fisher — all three recently graduated from Emporia High in May after leading the EHS boys golf team to two straight runner-up finishes at the Class 5A State golf tournament — are within nine strokes of the lead in the 18-year-old division with two rounds left to play — one today and one on Thursday.

Reimer leads the way for the Emporia trio, as he shot a 4-over 76 on the par-72 course to end Day One in a tie for 10th place.

Harder was one stroke back of Reimer at 5-over, putting him in a tie for 14th, while Fisher was another stroke back at 6-over to end his round in a tie for 18th.

Trevor Johanson of Maize leads the 18-year-old field with a 3-under 69. The overall leader after Round One is 15-year-old Joe Winslow of Overland Park, as he shot a 4-under 68.

Fisher and Harder tee off for the second round at 1:20 p.m. today, while Reimer is set to start Round Two at 1:50 p.m.
