Community swim

The Emporia Aquatic Club will be host for a free community swim night at the Jones Aquatic Center from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Jones Aquatic Center, north of W. 18th Ave., west of the Kansas Turnpike, near the TRYSA Soccer Complex. The event is open to all swimmers and their families. Emporia has one of the finest small-town year-round competitive swim clubs and a showcase pool facility, said the news release.

Classes offered

These community classes are offered this week at Flint Hills Technical College, 3301 W. 18th Ave. Advance registration is required. Contact Rachael LeClear at 341-1339 or rleclear@fhtc.edu for details.

- Cooking: Three Neat Egg Rolls with Regina Murphy, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, $14. Learn how to make three very different and very delicious egg rolls: The Thai Spring Roll, traditional Chinese egg roll, and Philippino Lumpia. Eat as you go, and experience the delicate and varied flavors of the Orient.

- Beginning Digital Imaging: Introduction to Adobe Photoshop with Michael Bird, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, $42. Red eye giving you trouble? Want to cover up that unsightly blemish? Is that old photo from the 70s looking a little “off”? Learn how do to basic photo editing using Photoshop. Class materials: Please bring your digital camera (if you have one) as well as any cables that might go with it and your memory card. If you interested in restoring old images, bring a sample or two to work on.  Bethel dinner

The annual Basket Supper for the Bethel community will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the school house. Each family is asked to bring a main dish, a salad, a dessert and table service. The Pep and Progress Community Unit will provide the beverages.

Band concert

Bruff’s Bar & Grill is the sponsor for Thursday’s concert by the Emporia Municipal Band. Hot dogs will be for sale before and during the 8 p.m. concert in Fremont Park. Proceeds will benefit the United Way of the Flint Hills. The concert program was published in Tuesday’s Gazette.
