Liliana Heredia-Taylor, director of services with the Lyon County Red Cross, will discuss the importance of planning for emergencies at home, creating an evacuation plan and how to prepare for weather-related emergencies. For more information, call 342-4211.
Ham operators
Volunteers who are members of the local Amateur Radio Emergency System (ARES) will hold a communications drill from 10:30 a.m. until approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the lot behind St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1508 W. 12th Ave. The goal of this project is to erect a suitable antenna and set up a short wave radio station capable of communicating anywhere in the United States on short notice using no commercial power. This service is designed to supplement the communications of the local emergency agencies when a disaster puts normal channels out of service. Visitors are welcome to observe.
