After a week of storms, the weekend’s bright, clear weather proved perfect for two area communities that had annual festivals scheduled.
Madison Days — that town’s annual community celebration — drew townspeople and visitors alike for the event’s blend of participatory games and good food.

At Cottonwood Falls, artisans celebrated pioneer life with the Flint Hills Folklife Festival. The festival included hands-on demonstrations of old-time crafts and chores, along with booths selling crafts.
As always, one of the most popular booths was the one selling homemade root beer.
