The Emporia Legion A-16 Gold squad suffered an 11-1 run-ruled loss at the hands of the Andover Jaguars in the first game of pool play at the Wendy’s Classic on Friday.
Andover starter Josh Bikus held Emporia to just three hits in five complete innings of work, as Matt Weatherred, Josh Lambert and Brett McEvoy each went 1-for-2 at the plate to collect the Golds’ three hits.
Emporia’s lone run came in the third when Weatherred led off with a double. Weatherred then came home thanks to consecutive fly outs from Lambert and Justin Wilson.
Meanwhile, offensively for Andover, Tyson Hilyard and Jack Gentry each scored three runs.
The Golds play again at 1:30 p.m. today against Olathe South before bracket play begins at 3:45 p.m. The Emporia Blue squad already wrapped up the No. 1 seed in bracket play and will not play again until Sunday, while Andover will be the No. 2 seed.
