Photo work singled out

A business operated by an Emporia State University alum is among the region’s top wedding photographers, according to The Knot, an internationally known wedding media and services company.

Sam Jordon II’s Royal Photography of Lee’s Summit, Mo., is among the award recipients featured in The Knot’s “Best of Weddings” issue, now on newsstands. Brides who were registered with The Knot rated particular vendors they were familiar with.

While Jordon studied communications at Emporia State, he was a photographer for the yearbook and the campus newspaper. As he worked as staff photographer for the Kansas State Globe and Missouri State Post newspapers, a part-time business photographing weddings grew into a full-time business.

In addition to weddings, Royal Photography photographs other special events and handles pregnancy portraits, senior portraits and photos of local and national celebrities. In a news release, Jordon notes that his photo subjects include Sen. Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton, Martin Luther King III, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Buck O’Neil and Bill Cosby.

Hartenbower honored

Karen Hartenbower, Lyon County clerk, received the PRIMA Kansas Chapter Service Award on Monday at the 2008 PRIMA National Conference.

The Kansas chapter paid for Hartenbower’s trip so she could receive the award in person from the national organization, a public risk-management association.

Offers new services

Amy Miller of George’s Barber and Style Shop has successfully completed the Bioelements Advanced Training Program, which enables her to provide a variety of services including microderm abrasion, anti-aging treatments, oxygen facials and cryothermic body wraps.

In a news release, Miller said that Bioelements was named best facial line in the Best of the Best Awards conducted by Skin Inc. magazine. The competition is unusual in that winners are chosen by a neutral panel of industry experts from nominations submitted by readers, “making it the most unbiased, prestigious honors given in the industry today.”

Miller may be reached at 342-HAIR (342-4247).
