‘On the Porch’
The June 2008 “On the Porch” series at the William Allen White House State Historic Site, 927 Exchange St., begins Sunday at 2 p.m. with “Author on the Porch.” The guest is Beverley Buller, who wrote the first biography about White designed for young readers. Buller, of Newton, is a middle school librarian and a volunteer with the W.A. White Book Award program. She will answer questions and autograph books during the afternoon. Other “On the Porch” guests will be cowboy, rancher and author Jim Hoy at 2 p.m. June 22; and singer-songwriter Lisa Moritz at 2 p.m. June 29. The series is sponsored by the White Community Partnership. There is no charge, but donations in support of the site will be accepted. Tuition rising
TOPEKA — The Kansas Board of Regents on Thursday approved tuition increases ranging from 4.9 percent at Emporia State University to as much as 6 percent for other universities and extended a program at the University of Kansas that sets a fixed four-year tuition rate for incoming freshmen.
Juniors, seniors, transfers and graduate students will pay 6 percent more in tuition at KU next fall.
The regents also approved a 5.9 percent increase, or $164.55 per credit, for undergraduate students taking 15 hours at Kansas State.
