‘Sweetwater’ performs

The Brown Bag Concert at noon Wednesday at the Emporia Public Library will be given by “Sweetwater,” a Christian pop band. Children can come at 11 a.m. and create an art project with the Emporia Arts Council. Pizza and beverages will be sold by Wheat State Pizza. In case of rain or heat, event are held inside the library. Those attending may want to bring lawn chairs.

Concert & movie

Featured Wednesday at Live in the Lot, Seventh Ave. and Merchant St., will be the band “Radio City” at 7:30 p.m. and the movie, “Racing Stripes” at 8:30 p.m.

Memorabilia wanted

The Lyon County Historical Society is looking for memorabilia and/or photographs about the Emporia 50-S Drive In, which closed in the mid-1980s. According to the Society brochure, there are only 13 operating theaters in the state of Kansas, with the closest theaters in El Dorado and Wichita. There are more than 28 “defunct or ‘dead’ drive-ins in Kansas. Those with information about the 50-S Drive in may call curator Rita Scribner at 340-6310. Quilt show

Local area quilters will be featured in the Prairie Quilt Guild show, “Common Threads 2008,” along with quilters from all areas of Kansas. The show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 20 and 21 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 22 at the Century II-Expo Hall in Wichita. According to the press release, more than 800 quilted items from miniature wall hangings to king-sized quilts and quilted clothing will be on display in 57 booths at the Merchants’ Mall, along with vendors. There will be exhibits of rug hooking, art quilters, a crochet group, a knitting group, the Needles Arts Guild, a sewing guild and a Hand Weavers, Spinners and Dryer Guild. Linda McCuean, a prize-winning quilter, will be the certified judge and also will give lectures and classes. At noon Saturday, there will be a miniature quilt auction, with proceeds to be used for educational programs. Tickets, which are $10 for one day or $15 for all three days, can be purchased at the door or online at www.wichitatix.com. No children under six years or strollers will be allowed.
