MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) _ Dozens of structures in Manhattan and on the Kansas State University campus are heavily damaged after a line of powerful storms passed through the city.
Riley County Police Lt. Kurt Moldrup told Kansas City TV station WDAF Thursday that several Manhattan businesses are damaged or destroyed and 30 homes are leveled. He credits warning sirens before the storms hit Wednesday night for a minimum of minor injuries.
KSU said Thursday's classes have been cancelled, while freshman orientation and enrollment are still planned but at will be held at Bramlage Coliseum starting at 8:30 a.m. School vice president Bob Krause said several buildings are without power, and debris litters the campus.
The university said The Wind Erosion Laboratory is destroyed, and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house is heavily damaged. All residents are safe.

We are so lucky. My cousin, a civilian, commutes from Manhattan to Ft Riley daily. He saw some of the damage on his way to work, the True Value Hardware, etc. Traffic was heavy, debris everywhere. Many people were driving over debris and puncturing their tires.
