Spartan Soccer Camp
The Emporia High School Boys Soccer Camp has been scheduled for July 14-18 at the TRYSA soccer fields. The camp is recommended for any boy interested in playing soccer for EHS in the fall.
The camp will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and will cost $30. A T-shirt is included with the cost. All players must wear shin guards and cleats and bring their own water and soccer ball.
The purpose of the camp is to prepare all players for a successful season. In addition, the camp is set up to promote team chemistry and prepare players for the tactical, technical and physical demands of the upcoming season.
Registration deadline is July 8.

Emporia Aquatic Club
Free Swim Night
The Emporia Aquatic Club is holding a free community swim night at the Jones Aquatic Center on June 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. This event is open to all interested swimmers and their families.
Emporia has one of the finest small-town year-round competitive swim clubs and a showcase pool facility at Jones Aquatic Center. Come learn about the Emporia Aquatic Club and the benefits of swimming while enjoying a free family swim night.
The Jones Aquatic Center is located just north of West 18th Avenue and just west of the Kansas Turnpike, near the TRYSA Soccer Complex.
Corporate
Challenge Sign-Up
The Emporia Recreation Staff is organizing the seventh annual “Corporate Challenge” that will be held Aug. 10 through the 22.
Because it is the Corporate Challenge, 15-member teams must be employees of one’s company or organization. Teams should consist of both male and female members. If a group does not have 15 employees to make a team, the recreation staff can be contacted about other possibilities.
Team entry fee is $125 with a limit of two teams per company. Each team can consist of up to 15 employees, and all participants will receive a T-shirt. There will be no additional event charges for participants during their scheduled activities.
A schedule of the activities, times, rules and printable registration form are available at emporiarec.org. While there, one can look at highlights from “Corporate Challenge 2007.”
Team entry forms also can be picked up at the Emporia Recreation Center main desk. Entry deadline is July 24.

Team Champions
Wrestling Camp
The Team Champions Wrestling Camp will be held at Baker University in Baldwin City from June 17-20 and June 24-27. The camp supports Baker’s new collegiate wrestling program.
Featured clinicians include numerous NCAA All-Americans and collegiate and high school coaches from Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.

Madison to host
3-on-3 Hoopfest
The Madison Days 3-on-3 “In the Park” Hoopfest will be held on Saturday.
The pre-registration deadline has passed, and the cost of registration on the day of the Hoopfest is $50 per team.
Every participant will receive a T-shirt.
The double-elimination tournament will be split into five divisions: 7th- and 8th-grade girls; 9th-, 10th- and 11th-grade girls; 7th- and 8th-grade boys; 9th-, 10th- and 11th-grade boys; and a co-ed division consisting of graduating seniors and older.
The divisions represent the grades that students were in during the past academic year.
Entry forms can be picked up at the Lee Beran Recreation Center in Emporia.

Emporia State Youth
Baseball Camps
Emporia State baseball coach Bob Fornelli and his staff have teamed up with Emporia Recreation to offer a baseball camp for young ball players. Camps are offered for children 5-9 years of age and will concentrate on pitching and catching as well as hitting and defense.
Camp for ball players 10-14 years of age will concentrate on all aspects of the game. Come ready to have a good time and learn the fundamentals of baseball. Don’t forget to bring your glove, hat and shoes. Camp will be held at Glennen Field at the Trusler Sports Complex.
The camps will run June 16-19 with ages 5 to 9 from 9-11 a.m.; 10 to 14 years from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Cost for each camp is $50. The deadline to register is Friday. For information or to register, call the Emporia Recreation Commission at 340-6300.

Lady Hornets Camp
of Champions
Emporia State Lady Hornets basketball coach Brandon Schneider will offer one more Camp of Champions in the area this summer for boys in grades Kindergarten through eighth and girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade. The two-day camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes individual instruction on ball handling, shooting, fundamentals and defense, plus shooting competitions and 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 play.
The camp costs $75 and there is a $25 nonrefundable deposit. The location and registration deadline is:

Emporia High Summer
Football Camp
Emporia High School head coach Bill Lowe and staff will conduct a summer football camp for children age 9-14. The camp will focus on the fundamentals of football in a fun and exciting environment.
The camp will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 28-30 at the Emporia High football field. All kids who participate in the football camp will NOT have to attend the mandatory workout for fifth-sixth grade tackle football program.

Emporia High Spartan
Volleyball Camp
Join new Emporia High volleyball coach Betsy Martling as she holds the Spartan Volleyball Camp this summer.
The Spartan Volleyball Camp is open to all volleyball players regardless of previous experience. The camp will involve teaching the basic fundamentals of the sport, including: serving, passing, setting, attacking and defense. These skills will be taught in a step-by-step manner and applied in team drills and competition.
Campers will play on lowered nets and with lightweight volleyballs/beachballs.
Current and former EHS volleyball players will be on hand to assist with the camp.
There are two sections for the camp. There is a Kindergarten through third grade camp on June 23-26 from 9:30-11 a.m. each day at the Emporia High School gymnasium. The second section is for campers in grades fourth through sixth and will run on June 23-26 from 9:30-11 a.m. each day at the Emporia High School gymnasium.
There is a $35 enrollment fee, which includes a camp T-shirt. Late enrollments will be accepted at the door, but T-shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed at that time.

Emporia State
Volleyball Camp
Emporia State University’s volleyball coaches and players will offer a resident camp and specialty camp this summer at ESU’s physical education building.
Hornet Way Camp from June 23-26 will work on all skills with girls being divided into two groups — grades six to nine and grades nine to 12 for advanced skills.
Resident athletes will live in ESU dorms during the camp. Commuter athletes also are welcome. Cost for the resident camp is $240, which includes meals and lodging; commuters pay $195.
A $50 deposit is required with the balance due at registration, noon to 1 p.m. June 23.
The staff will offer half-day specialty camps from 9 a.m. to noon June 28. Girls in grades six through 12 can choose to attend setter or hitter camps. Cost is $60. Full application fee is due in advance or at the door. Registration is 8 to 9 a.m. June 28.
Campers at all ESU volleyball camps receive a customized ESU volleyball.

Juniors and Ladies
Golf Clinics
Ken Roper, a life member of the Professional Golfers Association, will hold one more golf clinic in June.
The camp is a ladies clinic at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
There is one more session — on Sunday — with a cost of $15 per session. The clinic will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The clinic is designed to help women improve their golf games.

Aquatic Club Summer
Season Practices
Summer season practices for the Emporia Aquatic Club have begun.
Because of cool temperatures, morning practices (7-8:30 a.m.) will be held at the Emporia High School pool during June only.
All evening practices (6:30-8 p.m.) and morning practices after June will be held at the Jones Aquatic Center pool.
The highlight of the summer season will be a meet on July 19-20 at the Jones Aquatic Center with more than 200 swimmers expected from across Kansas.
The Emporia Aquatic Club is a year-round competitive swim club open to all ages and skill levels. If interested in joining, please contact coach Melissa Williams at 341-0127.
Emporia Summer
Basketball League
Registration is now being taken for the Emporia Summer Basketball League, which will take place on Mondays through Thursdays during the month of July at Emporia High School.
The league is for boys and girls from Kindergarten through eighth grade. Organized area teams are encouraged to attend.
Teams will be set according to age group with a 10-game guarantee. Players might play two games in one night. The first meeting is July 3 for team organization.
Cost is $60, with a family rate of $20 for additional children. Deadline to enter is June 27.
