The Emporia board of education unanimously approved new mathematics books and a student handbook for elementary schools during a 20-minute regular meeting Wednesday at Mary Herbert Education Center.
The board also held a 20-minute executive session on personnel. No action was taken, according to Nancy Horst, community relations director for the district.
The math books had been removed during an earlier meeting in which the board approved a broad spectrum of textbook purchases. District officials had not been satisfied with the content of the math texts and the board approved additional time for studying possible purchases.
“They delayed it until they could do a little more research on exactly what they wanted,” Horst said.
Board president Grant Riles, who is recuperating from heart surgery, was absent from the meeting Wednesday, as was vice president Mary Helmer, who was out of town on a job-related assignment. Member Mike Crouch presided in their absence.
