The Lyon County Planning and Appeals Board met Wednesday evening to discuss applications for re-zoning before them and set priorities for reviewing the comprehensive plan.
The group was to review the comprehensive plan Wednesday night, but because only four members were at the meeting they decided to push the discussion to the July 9 meeting. However, the group did talk about some things they’d like to look at. Board member Gary Watts said he would like clarification on yard frontage. He also wanted to look at putting a sunset on properties when they have been re-zoned.
“If nothing happens in a certain point in time, the re-zoning needs to be null and void,” Watts said.
Board member Steve Brosemer suggested looking at moving some of the voting powers on re-zoning to the planning board. Right now, the planning board recommends approval or denialof an application and the Lyon County Commission has the final say in the application. Brosemer said this is the only county he’s worked in that does it that way.
“Lyon County has an extra layer of bureaucracy here,” he said.
The applications that the board would like to be able to approve themselves are simple requests for re-zoning to allow a home on a property.
“The big stumbling block is getting commissioners to pass a resolution giving the board that power,” Brosemer said.
In other business board members:
• Will recommend approval for a request to agriculture special use single family dwelling by Ronald Sellers to built a house on about 27 acres in the 1000 block of Road K.
• Will recommend approval for a request to agriculture special use single family dwelling by Robert and Tammie Reed, for a property at 3695 Road U. The property is about 10 acres.
