With help from three top-10 finishes, the Emporia State athletic department finished 11th in the final 2007-08 U.S. Sports Academy Director’s Cup Standings with 568.50 points.
The Director’s Cup takes into account the top finishes on the national level by a school’s sports programs. It is regarded as one measure of determining overall athletics success by a school.
ESU was the highest-ranked MIAA team in the final standings. The 11th-place showing is the highest finish ever for ESU.
The Hornets had top-10 final rankings in softball, women’s basketball and women’s track and field. That included a runner-up finish from the ESU softball team.
ESU also had top-20 finishes from men’s indoor track and field, baseball, women’s tennis, volleyball and men’s outdoor track and field.
It marks the fourth straight year ESU has finished in the top 50 in the Director’s Cup, which ranks all 281 Division II schools.
The MIAA had six schools in the top 50.
After ESU was Central Missouri, which finished 18th. Truman was 24th, Missouri Southern was 32nd, Washburn was 37th and Northwest Missouri State was 44th.
ESU’s highest finish previously was a 12th-place showing in 2005-06.

Nice accomplishment for the athletic department....now.....can someone over there please pull the football progran fron underneath the bus so they can have their chance to be successful? Fair is fair.
