Teen chef on TV
Emporia’s teen chef, Aldo Sandoval, was in Topeka Monday for a cooking session that was be filmed and edited down to be broadcast on WIBW-TV, Channel 13, at 4 p.m. today.
He also is expected to be featured on a “Good Kids” piece during the 10 p.m. news Tuesday.
“He’s going to do one of our entire cooking segments tomorrow,” WIBW news anchor Ralph Hipp said in a telephone interview Monday afternoon. “We’re going to treat him like Mr. Food. ... We’re going to record whatever time Aldo needs to make it.”
The segment will be edited down to four or five minutes.
Sandoval won the 2008 Best Teen Chef competition in Dallas in April and placed second in the national competition last month in Las Vegas. The win in Dallas brought the 19-year-old a $10,000 scholarship to the Culinary Arts Institute and the Las Vegas win carried a $40,000 scholarship to the Institute.
Sandoval will prepare Orechietti con Carciofl — stuffed pork rolls — that were part of his entry in the Las Vegas competition.
