The Emporia State women’s basketball team finished second in the nation in attendance for the second straight year, averaging 2,272 fans per home game for the 2007-08 season.
ESU trailed only Northern State, which ended with an average of 2,483 fans per contest. Washburn was third with 2,261 fans per game.
It is the 11th straight year that the Lady Hornets have finished in the top six nationally in attendance.
ESU had nine games with more than 2,000 fans. During home games, the Lady Hornets were 12-2.
An interesting note: ESU’s smallest crowd — 1,134 in a Friday afternoon game against Central Methodist — was better than the average attendance in 20 of 31 Division I conferences.
The MIAA as a conference ranked second in Division II attendance. The MIAA’s 1,312 fans per game was second only to the North Central Conference, which drew 1,382 people per contest.
The MIAA would have ranked 11th among Division I conferences.
