Outstanding senior

Daniel Kirk of Emporia was named an Outstanding Graduating Senior in instrumental music during the Missouri Western State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Honor Convocation in April. Kirk received a bachelor’s degree in music.

Graduates in biology

Kellie Milam of Emporia graduated May 3 from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian College at Laurinburg, N.C., with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Her parents, Lisa Clopton and Doug Milam of Emporia, attended the commencement ceremonies.

Service learning

Katherine Ann Moneymaker, sophomore at the University of Kansas studying pre-law, received the Service Learning Certification from the university at the May 8 ceremony. Moneymaker, a graduate of Emporia Senior High School, is the daughter of Richard and Cynthia Moneymaker of Emporia. Certification indicates that the student has dedicated significant time to classes and activities that foster civic engagement, community involvement and leadership.

On president’s list

Governor’s scholar and 2007 Emporia High School graduate Stephanie Ternes was named to the Barton County Community College fall 2007 and spring 2008 President’s List, qualified by a 4.0 grade point average. Ternes competed on the Cougars Cheer Squad and in April traveled to the national competition in Daytona Beach, Fla. She also was initiated to the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She is the daughter of Steve and Carmaine Ternes of Emporia.

EMS fourth-quarter honor roll

The fourth-quarter honor roll has been announced at Emporia Middle School. Students must have a grade-point average of 3.6 or higher to be included on the list.
