Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

The Reading Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. at the Reading Community Building.

Tuesday

P.E.O. Chapter HY meets at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Joann Sanderson. The program will be a report about the 2008 state convention. Members are to bring sack lunches.

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

Single Adult Fellowship group meets at 6 p.m. every Tuesday in June at Pizza Hut-Wing Street, 2920 W. 18th Ave. Information: Rufus Hobbs, 392-5780.

The Kiwanis Club meets at 6:15 p.m. in the Commander’s Room at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

The Emporia Duplicate Bridge Club meets at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Best Western Hospitality House, 3021 W. Highway 50. Information: Clara Elkins at 342-5274.

The Sunrise Rotary Club meets at 7 a.m. at the Regency Gardens, 3021 W. Highway 50.

The International Association of Administrative Professionals meet at 6:30 p.m. at Newman Regional Health for dinner, with presentations at 7 p.m. Nadine Yust, 341-9979.

The Emporia Regional Quilters Guild meets at 7 p.m. at the new Lyon County extension building.

Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the ESU Memorial Union.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave. Members will discuss plans for the 48th annual Ag Appreciation Dinner on June 14 at the Anderson Building on the Lyon County fairgrounds. The guest speaker will be Mike Matson of the Kansas Farm Bureau.

P.E.O. Chapter GT meets at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Kathryn Perkins for a salad picnic. Co-hostesses will be members of the Social Committee, Sylvia Lowder, Gae Williams, Susan Cockrell and Donna Seibel. The GT delegate will give a report about the state convention.

Saturday

The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in the main terminal at the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnut. “You are free to move about” the airport. Information: 342-3598.

The Bluestem Swingers Square Dance Club and Round Dancers meets from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Emporia Senior Center, 603 E. 12th Ave., for a Flag Day Dance with caller Jim Hayes and cuer Betty Skillett.

Sunday

The Flint Hills Chapter of the Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers meets from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Emporia Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave. Music is provided for dancing. Admission is by donation. Visitors are welcome.

June 16
