The Lyon County Planning and Appeals Board will conduct its annual review of Lyon County’s comprehensive plan during next week’s monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the county commission meeting room of the Lyon County Courthouse.
Sam Seeley, Lyon County Zoning Administrator/Floodplain Manager said the board reviews the plan yearly. Seeley said the comprehensive plan points the direction in which the county wants to go and what residents want to protect in the county as far as zoning. This is the document the board looks at when considering whether to approve requests for zoning changes.
“Just development in the future,” he said. “Just to mainly show the will of the county (from) citizens ... where they want to go. It’s not based on just what the county as a government wants. It gives us a lot of guidance.”
Seeley said the comprehensive plan is a living document and is revised as needed.
“It’s been changed little by little over the years,” he said. “Mainly it’s just to change with demographics and population changes. February 2001 was when they compiled the most recent full revision.”
The review of the plan will take place in a public hearing and there will be time for public comment, Seeley said.
“It’s a public hearing so during the planning board meetings (they) give opportunity to anybody to talk on any subject,” Seeley said.
Also on the agenda for Wednesday night are three applications:
• A request for agricultural special-use single family dwelling by Ronald Sellers.
• A request for agricultural special-use single family dwelling by Richard and Tammie Reed.
• A request for a variance on intensity of use by Ray and Rose Zorn.
